Untamed Writing has undergone a lot of changes so far this year. It’s been frustrating and hard work at times, but it’s been totally worth it. The site feels a lot more ‘me’ now, and it definitely fits with Untamed Writing’s brand a lot more. Also, that awful default green is gone, which alone is cause for celebration. Alright, here’s everything that’s new on Untamed Writing, in case you haven’t been paying attention (or you’re new here — welcome!):
A few months ago, I got a new logo designed and never said very much about it. I LOVE IT. If you haven’t stared at it long enough to realise what’s so awesome about it, I suggest you do so now. I didn’t want a corny logo featuring a typewriter or a pen or any of that other naff, cliched bollocks you find on other writing sites. Instead, I wanted to focus on the untamed aspect, because that’s what this site is really all about, isn’t it? The freedom starting your own writing business gives you. And, in my case at least, the ability to travel far and wide whenever I want to. So, no pens or typewriters, but, instead, a mountain. Here it is, in all its gargantuan glory:

The other main thing that’s changed, which you will have noticed already if you’ve been visiting the site for a while, is the design. And, perhaps more notably, how it isn’t all that different from the old design. You may have heard me talk about how I was having my site redesigned and how epic it was going to be. (Although I’m betting I didn’t actually say ‘epic’.) And it was starting to shape up pretty nicely. But eventually I had to concede that the designer I’d hired wasn’t up to the task I’d set before him, and I ended the redesign.
I realised that if I wanted to have the site redesigned the way I’d envisaged it, I’d have to hire somebody a lot more experienced and a lot more expensive, and right now I’m not convinced doing so will give me a worthy return. In fact, I know it won’t. But still, the old design was not right. Mainly, the colours were all wrong (too pastelly and not earthy or badass enough). The fonts weren’t quite right either. Fortunately, thanks to spending my youth creating geeky websites dedicated to characters from Final Fantasy, I knew how to tweak a bit of code here and there to align the site more with the brand of Untamed Writing. The results are what you see now. Why I didn’t do this earlier is beyond me. I probably thought it would be harder than it was, and that I might as well wait to have the site redesigned professionally.

I’ve hated the tagline on the site for quite some time. It reflected my lack of experience in copywriting, and it didn’t suit what the brand had turned into. More importantly, it didn’t at all reflect what the site was now about. At the start of this year, I decided to shift the focus of my blog posts towards freelance writers, rather than the small business owners I’d previously been targeting. So, my old tagline ‘helping badass businesses write smokin’ hot words’ (cringe) definitely was not right. I’m happy with the new tagline, which fits both the brand, the audience AND the content of the site: Bullshit-free advice on getting paid to write. Bam, straight to the point. And a few days ago, I finally added it to the header of the site. Yay procrastination! I’d been meaning to do that for fucking weeks.
Start Content Writing
I’ve added a few new pages to the site throughout the year too, including the sales page for my new course, Start Content Writing, the inaugural class of which began yesterday.
I’m very excited about it, and it seems you guys are too, as it’s been far more popular than I expected, and interest in it has surpassed the interest in my original course, Start SEO Writing. Start Content Writing feels much more aligned with what Untamed Writing is all about than Start SEO Writing, too, which is nice.

Rebranding The Quickstart Class to Start SEO Writing
Inline with the launch of Start Content Writing, I also decided to rebrand my original course. I changed the name to Start SEO Writing from The Quickstart Class, which I realised on inspection was a super dumb name, because taken out of context and separated from its tagline, that name gives zero indication of what the course is actually about. Whoops. As I said: I’ve learned a lot more about copywriting since creating this business. I also redesigned the course materials, so they are sexy as fuck now. They incorporate the new logo and colours and, well, I just loves ’em.
The course materials have undergone some big changes since I first made them in 2013!
Since I now offer more than one course, it made sense to add a Courses page. This page gives an overview of both courses, and will help you figure out which one is right for you.
I also added a Work with Me page, which details the different services I offer.
Updates On All Other Pages
As well as creating those new pages, I’ve also updated every other page on the site. The Start SEO Writing page, the Copywriting page, and the Resources page have received the biggest updates, with the About page and the Contact Me page getting a few little tweaks of their own. Even the home page has received a couple of tweaks in the footer and the opt-in box at the top of the page. Basically, everything has been overhauled, with the exception of the Archives page, which didn’t need any changes, and the blog posts, which I do intend to make a few changes to, but, as I’m sure you can imagine, that’s a pretty big job, which I’ll be tackling over the next couple of months.
